Ok....so today I am TIRED!!!! A group of us went to Austin last night to see a benefit concert at Antone's. Antone's is pretty much a dive, but its one of those "iconic places" you have to visit if you take a trip to Austin. Out front was the Mystery Mobile (Scooby Doo's van), and inside was a parade of musical acts...some REALLY good...and some NOT!!

Here is a little history on Antone's
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Clifford Antone opened the original club July 15, 1975 at 6th and Brazos in an old furniture warehouse with zydeco king Clifton Chenier.
Bringing in the blues and soul legends of the day such as Muddy Waters, Jimmy Reed, Willie Dixon, John Lee Hooker, Fats Domino, Sunnyland Slim, Hubert Sumlin, Eddie Taylor, Walter "Shakey" Horton, Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, Pinetop Perkins, Albert King, James Cotton, Calvin Jones, Willie "Big Eye" Smith, Bobby Blue Bland, and B.B. King made Antone's the premier blues club in Texas.
He furthered the career of regional R&B artists such as Albert Collins, Barbara Lynn, Clifton Chenier, Miss Lavelle White, and Lazy Lester.
Yet what truly made Antone's Austin's Home of the Blues was its cultivation of local talent such as Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble, Jimmie Vaughan, Angela Strehli, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Derek O'Brien, Lou Ann Barton, Guy Forsyth, Doyle Bramhall II, Sue Foley, Bob Schneider, and Charlie Sexton.
Hurricane Dolly
I hadn't ever really given much thought to hurricanes...untill I moved here anyway.
She hit Texas land on Wednesday July 23rd, 2008.
It wasnt till Friday night that my roommate Lori got a call to head south for "disaster relief".
Lori headed out early Saturday morning to help do mental health intake and find resources for patients that were left homeless or without services needed. Working in Brownsville, but staying in a motel about 100 miles away. 12 hour shifts, the smell of stale water and so much poverty.
I hadnt given alot of thought to the "ripple effect" that happens in a natural disaster, but have come to realize that its not till the dust settles so to speak that people seek out services and head for shelters.
Over 24,000 people are still without power or running water as of this writing.
Luckenbach, Texas and Billy Joe Shaver!!
Saturday, Joyce and I went to Luckenbach to see Billy Joe Shaver. He was good! Going to Luckenbach (for those of you who havent ever been there) is a total adventure of its own. Here is a clip from thier homepage http://www.luckenbachtexas.com/
Luckenbach was established in 1849. One of the first settlers in the area was Jacob Luckenbach (1817-1911).
This tiny hill country hamlet where "Everybodys Somebody" was established as a Trading Post in 1849 making it one of the oldest settlements in Gillespie County.
The Post Office/ General Store/ Beer Joint, was first opened in 1886 by August Engel, an itinerant preacher from Germany, who's daughter Minna chose the name Luckenbach in honor of her fiance Albert Luckenbach. (Herr Luckenbach, a prolific fellow, also founded another little town called, what else?Albert, not far away).
Anyway, we had a great time, and it was as much fun to watch the people (especially as the night wore on and the drinks flowed freely!) as it was to hear Billy Joe. Good food,Good music, Fun, friendly people, and a nice night to be out and about!!! What more could a girl ask for? (besides maybe a handsome cowboy to entertain her on the dance floor!!!)
Well...since I cant figure out how to embed a video, I guess I will just link you to one so you can hear him!!!
You Are Belle!
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Intelligent and kind. Your beauty goes much further than your apperance. Also, you make judgements of people based on their personality and not their looks. Attaining all the knowledge that you can is one of your major goals in life, but you are also a person who can make things happen.
Well...I did it!!! After months and months of dragging it out because I am the world's worst procrastinator.....I GRADUATED!!!
I was a student at Techskills Business College in San Antonio. The official ceremony will take place in September sometime, and I get a cap and gown and pretty little certificate to hang on my wall....or stuff in a photo album somewhere.
I will sit for my CCA (Certified Coding Associate) sometime in the next couple months.
Thank you to my family who kept encouraging me to get it done and not give up.
I LOVE YOU!!
A loud "clacking noise" filled the air, as two Axis bucks fought for the attentions of the same female. Horns locked, they shoved and pushed and repeatedly lowerd thier heads and tried to turn the other away.
You could hear the snorts as they fought a noble fight. First, one taking the upper hand, then the other...pushing....pushing.
Back and forth across the field I watched them, captivated, wondering which one would win the battle. The one who appeared a bit older, with the almost black pelt across his back? The smaller of the two, who was smaller in stature but who's horns were regal and proud?
It was wildlife adventures right in my own back yard! Being the goober that I am, I watched for about 40 minutes untill they pushed thier way out of sight behind a grove of trees. I stood on the deck bench, trying hard to get the best views...THEN remembered to grab my camera!!! *smacks self*
my soapbox for today
Ever have a day where little things just GRATE ON YOUR VERY LAST NERVE ????
Why do people perform personal hygiene in public?? I dont floss my teeth at my desk, nor do I do other things that I consider "personal hygiene" in public.....I dont pick my nose in the grocery store, pry my undies out of my hind end in line at the post office or stick my finger in my ear and look at the results of my "dig"....I feel these are things you do at home or at the very least in your stall in the bathroom!! Yet I see people doing these things daily!!! Sitting in public trimming your fingernails? Come on.... Gross!
*steps off her soapbox*
